A Door County 4th of July!

I love fireworks and I love the 4th of July!  There was a lot to love about Colorado, but celebrating the 4th of July wasn't one of them.  We made do and always seemed to enjoy ourselves, but it just wasn't the 4th of July that I grew up with.  So, while it was sad to say goodbye to Colorado a couple of months ago - I was PSYCHED that we would be able to give our boys a 4th (any many more!) to remember.  The bonus...a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Schneider!

They pulled into town the afternoon of the 3rd.  Just in time to have a quick dinner and check out Ian's soccer game.  It is so wonderful living closer to them again - they get to be more involved in our lives and that is a true blessing.
After soccer, we headed north to Egg Harbor.  My all-time favorite fireworks show!  They never disappoint.  Plus, the kids get to play on the beach and have a grand 'ol time until the show actually starts.  I wasn't sure how Milo would fare because he hasn't really been exposed to fireworks.  The first couple of booms were shocking and he wanted nothing to do with them.  He was fine snuggling with me ahead of time and sitting with me while they went off.  I welcomed the extra snuggle time and we had fun taking silly pictures as a distraction.

Not the best photo, but it at least gives you a perspective on how close the fireworks were in relation to us.  Amazing!  So loud, but so awesome.  Ian was in awe and I loved hearing all the ooohhh's and aaahhh's.  A perfect kick-off to our first 4th back home!
Thursday morning we headed to Grandma and Grandpa's hotel to hang out.  Yes, friends - that is a pool table housing all the delights of our continental breakfast;)
We spent some time at the beach after breakfast.  Trying to make a game plan for how to spend the day.  Casey took the boys out on a canoe.  Ian was not impressed!  Fortunately, you can't hear his screams or see his white knuckles in the picture below.   Canoes have always been intimidating to me too, so I felt his pain.

We wanted to spend more time on the water and let Ian know that there is more to life than canoes...so we rented a pontoon boat.  Saddled everyone up and hit the open water.  It was so fun!

It was nap time for all after the boat ride, so we went our separate ways and met up at Beach Harbor/Waterfront Mary's for another fun night of fireworks.
The boys got to enjoy sparklers before the show...
and patiently waited for the Sturgeon Bay fireworks to start.  It was a good show and another late night, but the boys did great.  I am loving the life we have here!  We are off tonight to another fireworks display and then the fun will end...until next year!
